Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

Jesus was asked for one commandment and volunteered a second, welding it to the first. On these two, he said, hang all the law and the prophets.

As yourself is the genius of the command. You already know exactly how you want to be treated, remembered, forgiven, and given the benefit of the doubt. That knowledge is the manual. Love of God that never lands on a neighbor was, in Jesus' teaching, not love of God.

Take the care you extend to yourself today, the excuses you make, the comfort you arrange, the patience you show your own failures, and give an equal measure to the next person you deal with.
