Be kind to unkind people

Everybody knows how to be nice to nice people. That part is easy. Jesus asked his followers to do something much harder. Love your enemies, he said. Pray for the people who are mean to you.

That does not mean letting someone hurt you. If someone is hurting you, tell a trusted grown-up right away. It means you do not have to pay back mean with mean. You can pray for that person instead, and stay kind even when they are not.

When you love people who are hard to love, you are acting just like God, who is kind even to people who forget all about him.

Love your enemies and pray for those who are unkind to you.
