Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

Pearls were the diamonds of the ancient world, and this merchant was an expert who had spent his life appraising the best of them.
The hidden treasure was found by accident. The pearl was found by a lifelong seeker. Jesus honors both roads, the stumbler and the searcher, and both end the same way: everything for the one thing.
If you have been searching through philosophies, achievements, and experiences for something that finally satisfies, take the seeker's parable personally. When you find him, do not haggle. Buy the pearl.
