The Kingdom of Heaven

    The Mustard Seed

The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.

    Matthew 13:31-32

Jesus' followers were a small band in an occupied backwater of the Roman empire. Every visible measure said the movement was too small to matter.

God delights in laughable beginnings. The kingdom does not arrive impressive. It arrives tiny, then outgrows everything around it and becomes shelter for others.

Never despise your small start. One prayer, one changed habit, one act of love is a seed, and seeds are how God builds trees.
