Obedience and Fruit

    The Wise and Foolish Builders

Everyone, then, who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!

    Matthew 7:24-27

The closing words of the Sermon on the Mount. Both builders heard the same sermon. Both houses faced the same storm. The only variable Jesus names is doing.

This is John 7:17 in story form: the difference between knowing about the teaching and building on it. Foundations are invisible in fair weather, which is why so many houses on sand look fine for years.

Pick one saying of Jesus you have heard a hundred times and never fully done. Do it this week. Every act of obedience is a stone under your house before the storm.
