The Thief in the Night
But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Jesus deliberately chose a jarring image for his own return, not to frighten but to make one point unforgettable: the hour will not be announced.
Readiness cannot be scheduled. If we knew the hour we would clean up the night before, which is precisely why the hour is hidden. The unknown timing is a mercy that makes every day the day to be ready.
Ask the blunt question: if he came tonight, what would I want to have already made right? Then make it right this week, not someday.
