The Friend at Midnight
Suppose one of you has a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine has arrived, and I have nothing to set before him.' And he answers from within, 'Do not bother me; the door has already been locked, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.' I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything out of friendship, at least because of his persistence he will get up and give him whatever he needs.
Luke 11:5-9
Jesus gave this immediately after teaching the disciples the Lord's prayer, when they asked him how to pray. Hospitality was sacred, so arriving with nothing for a guest was a genuine midnight emergency.
The argument runs from lesser to greater. If a groggy neighbor answers persistence at midnight, how much more will a Father who loves you answer? The parable is not that God is reluctant. It is that shameless asking is welcome at his door.
Bring your midnight needs to God without apology, and notice the man was asking bread for someone else. Some of your boldest praying should be intercession.
